The three main styles of banjo are Celtic using a four string 'tenor' banjo played with a pick somewhat like a mandolin is played, Bluegrass using a five-stringbanjo played 'three finger style' picking the strings, often using steel finger tip picks and Old-Time banjo using a five string banjo played by 'frailing' or 'clawhammer' using the backs of the bare fingers strumming down the strings.
