I've been plagued with heartburn all day! This is the worst I've had so far, and I think I've narrowed down the "trigger" food... tomato!

I had a salad for lunch on Friday which had half a tomato sliced in it, and suffered heartburn all afternoon... today I had a cheese & tomato sandwich for lunch and right after I had heartburn... which hasn't stopped since!

Anyone know of other trigger foods? Any "natural" remedies? I've had 2 spoons of Gaviscon, 2 rennies and a glass of milk. It's definately calmed down but I'm dreading bedtime, I just hope it doesn't start up again. I really need a decent sleep tonight, I'm exhausted :(

I suffer from heart burn (is that gastritis?) and gastro-reflux (can't translate it's full name, hope you understand), and as far as I know, you can't, not even think about eating tomato and salad. My doctor forbid me to eat any fresh fruit or vegetables, and left me with eating only cooked food, that can't be fried or baked. I also can't drink juice, coffee, alcohol, or any aerated drink - only tea and water.

Milk is strictly forbidden! Nothing can make you feel worse than milk! Do not drink it to try to calm your heart burn, because it develops heart burn!!
Rather drink soya milk.
Try with yogurt - and only some of them will help, some of them won't, to me, they mostly help - if they're not fruit yogurts (this is what I feel the saddest about, God I love fruit, and now I can't eat it, not even in yogurts!!)..

If you need any more advice, just ask..

Yep gastro-reflux is the same thing as heartburn, as far as I'm aware. I've heard pregnant ladies on other sites talk about g/r and it sounds the same symptoms.

I haven't been too bad this week, totally avoided tomatoes and tomato products. I'm ok with bananas, apples, milk, but citrus/sour type fruits, I'm too scared to try now. I got another kiwi in our fruit box this week, so I'll try it without any other stuff this week and see how I go. It's a shame cos I love kiwis!

Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate it!!

Yes, all pregnant women suffer from it. It's because your baby is pressing your stomach, I guess...just like it presses your bladder.

I already have it, and I have to drink medications for it all the time - which aren't good for pregnant women..I'm really afraid of pregnancy, because of this. I would have to stop drinking medications.

Gastro-reflux is a problem of esophagus more than anything else..gastritis has more to do with strong stomach acid. Reflux means that stomach acid comes right back in your esophagus, which makes it weak, so a lot of people have to operationally tighten it. It can cause cancer if not treated properly. I have both - strong acid and reflux :(

I only had it with my last 2 kids. The first I had no heart burn at all. Then I did some with my 2nd and it was so bad with my last one that I couldn't sleep!
I have no idea how to make it feel better. I lived on tums. lol

Apparently if you get a lot of heartburn when you're pregnant, it's because your baby has a lot of hair.

It was true for an old friend of mine - she had heartburn all throughout her pregnancy and the baby came out with a head full of hair. :D
