I'm trying to trace my family tree on my mothers side, and I've hit a dead end concerning her father. I know he was in the defence forces, and was stationed in Georgetown, Brazil when he was killed in 1963. Does anyone know where I can find the defence records for all British soldiers killed?

I want to get hold of anything I can find. I've tried contacting the people where the records are held, but apparently the email doesn't exist, and a phone call would cost me a fortune. I'll be talking to my mother in the next few days, so hopefully I can get some info that will narrow down the search.

EDIT: Got a biyt more information (and turns out I was wrong on a few things). I am looking for information on the West Kent Regiment, he died in British Guyana in May 1964. If anyone can email me info, just message me and I will give you my email address.

Okies .... I can help you lol but there's good news and bad news

Good news is ... you can get your grandfather's records by downloading the form. The BAD news is .... YOU can't do it

I'm afraid the MOD will only isuue records to the official next of kin so that would be your Mother and it does cost money and you have to supply a lot of documentation along with your application.

However ...... I think it's only £30 and it's well worth the money imo.

Good luck

Let us know how you get on
