Toronto police have taken the unusual step of releasing images of a man they allege sexually abused a young girl for a video distributed on the internet.
Investigators believe the suspect, seen in this photo released by police, is in Canada. (Courtesy of Toronto Police)
Police made the decision after a 33-minute video, with the words "Canadian Girl" in the title, was discovered on the computers of 10 suspects in an international pedophile investigation, sparked by Edmonton detectives.
The probe, called Project Wickerman, led to the arrests of several suspects in Australia, the U.S., U.K. and Canada earlier in the year.
Detectives say the child, believed to be about eight or 10 years old, could be anywhere, but they strongly suspect the man they're looking for is somewhere in Canada.
The Jan. 26 arrest of an Edmonton man accused of molesting his stepchildren led to the larger investigation into the sharing of images of sexually assaults online.
The grainy video, released without sound, shows a man with a shaved head and close-cropped brown goatee, wearing a grey T-shirt and black trousers.
"We're very concerned about the safety of the little girl. We need to find her to make sure she is safe," said Toronto Police Staff Insp. Jane Wilcox.
The victim's image was digitally removed before the 22 seconds of video was released to the news media.
Investigators have posted the clip at the Toronto Police Service website and are urging people to come forward if they recognize anything in the video.

This is so horrible. Although it doesn't say it in this article, the local papers stated they have clips of him with children as young as newborn.
I would happily kill this *sweary word*
