How Do You Budget?

How do you budget for your household? Do you use any kind of system in order to be sure of your incomings/outgoings?


I tried to use an Excel spreadsheet detailing the incomings (both salaries) and the outgoings (bills and socialising). But I tend to do it once then not again

How do you keep yourself motivated and keep up the budgeting? I have to admit, I'm really bad at budgeting. By mid-month I'm always left with very little, if any, money. I hate it. It really gets me down

That's how I am Dotty, but I REALLY need to sort things out. I'm so sick of being broke all the time. By 2 days after payday I'm skint already

I direct debit all the bills and make sure there is money in the account to pay for them. I find that much easier, otherwise I would forget. I have a rough idea of my spending habits at the moment, so as long as bills etc are paid for first I am usually okay.

Excel spreadsheets etc are beyond me! I can't think of anything more tedious.. blah!

Just saw this old thread...can't help myself!

I am lucky, I have a job where I make cash every day. My rent I usually pay mostly in cash, and my truck payment and phone and all of that I do online. This online banking thing is awesome, because I used to be terrible about sending stuff off in the mail!!

I got very lucky this winter, I didn't fall behind. But I know which bills I can pay a little later if I have to do a little creative budgeting...
