The Alexander Technique is a method of movement that improves an individual's posture, correcting faults that can prevent the body working to its best capacity. It is also a technique that can alleviate many symptoms ranging from back pain to respiratory disorders, exhaustion to irritable bowel syndrome, headaches to high blood pressure.

Posture is never more important than during pregnancy when your body has to accommodate the extra weight, and all at the front. This can give rise to a great deal of extra stress and strain, which in turn is aggravated by poor posture.

Whether you want to improve your general posture to help your body cope better with pregnancy, or want to find a way to alleviate some specific symptom while you are pregnant, you will need to find a qualified teacher. Once you have learnt the techniques, you can practise alone - although it is useful to see a teacher regularly in order to make sure you continue to implement the technique correctly.
